Elections for the post of President were held on the 11th of October, 2009 and Mr. Lal Melwani was elected to the post for the year 2009-2010. Congratulations to Mr. Melwani and his entire committee and we wish him all the success for the coming year!

Independence/Janmashtmi

Hi Friends

Last weekend we had a lovely time at the Beautiful Independence Day celebrations so kindly hosted by H.E. Ambassador Pradeep Kapur and his lovely family in their residence. We thank them and are ever grateful for their efforts in organising such lovely events for the communtiy.

After that we had the Janmashtmi day celebrations in the temple, with bhajans and celebrations as well as prasad for everyone. The organisation was splendid and everyone had a great time. I am putting up some photos for everyone to enjoy. Also i remind everyone that if you do want to put some of your own photos up please send them to bharat@seleccciones.cl so that i can upload them to our site.

Indian Temple

Dear Friends

Sorry, it has been a long time since my last posting. I would like to update everyone as to our new Indian Temple which has been set up in Nuñoa. The address is Suarez Mujica 2897, Nuñoa and the number there is 920-1105.

If anyone would like to support or have events there they can get in touch directly with Mahraj Ravi or his wife Bhavna to co-ordinate any events.

This weekend there will be the janmasthmi puja to be held at the temple at 4:30 and it will be nice to see everone there. After the event we will post some photos for everyone to enjoy.

Sad Demise

It is with great regret that we wish to inform you of the sad demise of H.E. Mr. Venkataraman on 27th January, 2009. H.E. Mr. Venkataraman was the 8th President of India and served his post between 1987-1992.

On behalf of the Indian Community we would like to offer our condolences to the people of India as well as his direct family.

The Indian Embassy has set up a Condolence book at the Premises of the Embassy, located at Triana 871, Providencia should anyone wish to sign and pay their respects to our Nations former leader.

Indian Presidential Visit

As many of you are well aware, the President of India, H.E. Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil visited Chile on an official State Visit from the 20th - 23rd of April. Included in her delegation were prominent members of the Indian Business Community, Military Personnel as well as leading Journalists from India. Indian Hockey

The Indian national Hockey team were here in Santiago between the 3rd and 10th of March 2008 to play in the Beijing Olympics Qualifying Tournament. The Indian Association held a dinner in their honour and the team took the opportunity to thank all the Indians in Santiago for their wonderful support and encouragement during the tournament. Unfortunately the Indian team fell short at the final hurdle and lost to Great Britain in the final 2-0 and were unable to qualify for the olympics but they played beatifully during the entire week and left us all with a lot of wonderful memories. Below are some photos taken during the tournament. Many thanks to Rohit Thadani for taking such lovely photos.

Diwali Ball 2007

On Saturday the 10th of November, 2007 the Diwali Ball 2007 was held at Estadio Español and was a great success. DJ Monu Singh from New York came down for the event and made sure the music and atmosphere was alive till the early hours!
